Science-Policy Nexus in the Governance of Marine Biodiversity 
Professor Zakri ABDUL HAMID is one of the most accomplished administrators and scientists. For four decades, he has been providing public services at  the  national and 
international levels through his extensive expertise in science diplomacy, biodiversity and crop science. He had served as senior administrators at universities in Malaysia and Japan; and chief managements at several international affairs such as Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

In parallel to his accomplishment as an influential science administrator, professor Sakri has been strongly committed as a research scientist. He funded the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS) dedicated to address climate change impacts on water, energy, biodiversity, health and food security. Moreover, he spent several years in an international scientific and political cooperation, the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA), to examine the impacts of ecosystem changes to human well-being.

His excellent reputation has been clearly demonstrated through a number of awards: Fulbright-Hays Fellowship (1981); Rotary Research Foundation Gold Medal Award (1999); Langkawi Award (1998); Matsuda Award (2013); ASEAN Meritorious Service Award (2014); Zayed International Prize (2014), Academy of Science of South Africa Distinguished Visiting Scholar Award (2015) and CMO Asia Awards (2016).
